9/19/21 NFL COWBOYS VS CHARGERS
DALLAS @ LA CHARGERS (LAC -3, 55)
Sure, the Dallas Cowboys are 0-1, but they are back. Especially the offense. That’s why there is a ton of value in Sunday’s Cowboys-Chargers matchup.
Think back to 2019. The best offense in the NFL was located in Dallas. The Cowboys led the league in total offense averaging over 430 yards per game. The quarterback, of course, was Dak Prescott.
Last season, the Dallas offense was on fire early averaging 488 yards of offense per game. The catalyst once again was Prescott, but he went down with a season-ending injury in Week 5. Dallas would fall to 13th in the NFL in total offense by season’s end with Andy Dalton as the quarterback.
In Week 1 of this season, it was evident that the Dallas offense is back. Prescott threw for 403 yards against the defending Super Bowl champions defense. After one week, the Cowboys are back to the top of the heap sitting at No. 3 in total offense. That is likely to continue throughout the 2021 season.
Prescott has weapons everywhere. WR Amari Cooper caught 13 balls last week, two of them for touchdowns. CeeDee Lamb added another seven catches and a TD as both he and Cooper went over 100 yards receiving.
If there is one thing Dallas can improve, it’s running the football. But, they do have one of the better offensive lines in the NFL (they will be without OT La’el Collins this week) and they’ve got an All-Pro caliber running back in Ezekiel Elliott.
I haven’t even gotten to the Chargers and Justin Herbert. He threw for 337 yards and a score last week in a win over Washington. Herbert has some capable receivers too in Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.
This game total opened at 50 and is now up to 55. That tells you something. The Over is 6-2 in the Cowboys last eight games. With this game being played indoors at SoFi Stadium, expect fireworks from both teams. This one is going Over the posted total.
